The Gurgaon portion of Dwarka Expressway will be opened in February, Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav said at a press conference on Tuesday. He said that the Haryana government has written to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) seeking to throw the stretch open. “We are yet to hear back from the NHAI, but we expect the Gurgaon part to be opened soon, as 99 per cent of the work has been completed and only finishing touches remain,” an official said.

After several missed deadlines, NHAI officials had said the Gurgaon portion of the Dwarka expressway will be completed by the end of October. The expressway is divided into four packages: the first is from Shiv Murti near Mahipalpur to Dwarka; the second from Dwarka Urban Extension Road (UER) to Bajghera; the third from Bajghera to Basai rail overbridge (Delhi-Haryana border); and the fourth package from Basai ROB to Kherki Daula. The part of the highway that falls in Gurgaon includes the cloverleaf interchange that will connect the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway (NH-48), and the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) near Kherki Daula.

DC Yadav, further, unveiling projects for 2024, said that a new drain is being laid at Rs 136 crore from Vatika Chowk to SPR. This drain, constructed by GMDA, will mitigate the waterlogging problem on the Delhi-Gurgaon-Jaipur National Highway near Narsinghpur and around sectors 15 to 20. He stated that the district administration has identified around 110 locations in the city prone to waterlogging and suitable measures are being taken at all these locations.

Along with this, construction work for STP and WWTP is progressing in the villages of Dhanwapur and Chandu at a cost of Rs 250 crore.

Giving details about the Metro expansion project in the old city, DC Yadav said that the Haryana government has formed the Haryana Metro Rail Corporation (HMRC) on the lines of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The work on the metro expansion in old Gurgaon is expected to start by the end of this year and a special body has been formed by the government to oversee this entire project, he said.

Meanwhile, the work on the Orbit Railway Corridor is also progressing. A land in Sehli village has been identified for the new bus stand in the district.
